Treatment for Wisdom Teeth
Why do so many people have problems with wisdom teeth? In most cases, it is because there is inadequate room in the jaws for the wisdom teeth to fully erupt. Because of this, the third and final set of molars often become lodged or impacted in place within the jaw or against other teeth. Sometimes, the wisdom teeth will only erupt partially. Conditions like these cause problems, because they lead to concerns like:
- Damage to adjacent teeth
- Pain and swelling
- Cavities (due to the difficulty to clean)
- Gum disease
- Crowded teeth (due to pressure)
Wisdom Tooth Removal
Dr. Ally is able to provide most wisdom tooth extractions right here in our office. This prevents you or your teen from having to travel back and forth all over Silver Spring or DC for necessary treatment.
For most people, the wisdom teeth start to erupt as early as the teen years, or even as late as the upper 20’s for others. Everyone is different!
If a panoramic x-ray and exam reveal inadequate space inside of your mouth, it may be useful to have your wisdom teeth pulled before they cause any pain or discomfort. This way you can avoid crowding, especially if you have undergone orthodontic treatment.
If you suspect that you or your teen may need to have your wisdom teeth removed, please call Choice Dental Care. We would be happy to have you stop by for an exam and consult with Dr. Ally to have all of your questions answered. Se habla español.
